Statira Ranina is a Senior Partner at ALMT Legal with nearly three decades of experience advising Indian and international clients on complex corporate, tax, intellectual property, and technology-driven matters. She began her legal career in 1996 while pursuing her law degree and has since built a broad, integrated practice spanning corporate transactions, taxation, IP, and data protection.
Statira’s practice focuses on general corporate and transactional work, including mergers and acquisitions, private equity investments, joint ventures, asset and business transfers, slump sales, and strategic restructurings. She is known for her ability to navigate complex, multi-jurisdictional transactions with a commercially pragmatic and solution-oriented approach.
Her tax practice includes advising on GST and a wide range of cross-border tax issues such as withholding tax, permanent establishment, transfer pricing, and the characterization of software and technology-related payments. She regularly advises multinational clients on structuring transactions and operations in India from a tax-efficient and compliant perspective.
Statira also has significant experience in intellectual property and technology law, having done her LLM with a specialisation in IP and technology in the US, advising clients on IP protection strategies, group IP structuring, licensing, assignments, and commercialization of software and technology assets. In addition, she advises clients on data protection and privacy, including regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, and legal implications arising from data breaches.
Over the years, Statira has represented a diverse client base ranging from multinational corporations to Indian companies and promoters, across sectors such as information technology, e-commerce, retail, manufacturing, and healthcare.
She is actively involved in the global legal community and currently serves as Vice Chair of the Intellectual Property and Entertainment Law Committee of the International Bar Association (IBA). Statira has authored several articles for Indian and international publications and regularly chairs and participates in panels at leading international conferences.
Statira’s work has been consistently recognised by leading legal publications and directories. She has been featured in Asian Legal Business’ A-List of India’s Super 50 Lawyers for two consecutive years (2024 and 2025). The ITR World Tax Rankings 2026 recognise her as a Women in Tax Leader and Notable Practitioner for General Corporate Tax. Statira was also featured in Asian Legal Business as ‘ALB India Top IP Lawyers’ 2023 and 2022. She has been ranked Highly Regarded for Private Equity and M&A by IFLR1000 across multiple editions over a period of 6 consecutive years (2019–2025) and recognised by Legal 500 for Corporate M&A, Private Equity, Tax, TMT and Intellectual Property (2026 Edition).
